The Pastors

Bruce Gunkle is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and retired from the military with 21 years of service.  He and his wife, Sherry, pastor the City of Refuge Christian Fellowship in San Antonio, Texas.  They have two children, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pastor Bruce believes strongly in the local church and is a strong proponent of training up and releasing people to do the work of Jesus – building kingdom people who will change their families, impact the city and change the world.  He has been recognized and functions in an apostolic call and anointing.  He is a pastor to pastors and through the application of 'Personal Ministry', many, including five-fold ministers and their spouses, have found refuge here having been released from the bondages that have hindered them in fulfilling their kingdom work. 

Bruce preaches and teaches the Word of God, without compromise, and his insight into the truths of the Bible and the 'now' revelation of the Spirit is outstanding.

Sherry Gunkle is an anointed worship leader and walks in a dynamic prophetic gifting.  She labors alongside her husband in building up the Body of Christ at City of Refuge.  She is a strong leader, but exemplifies Godly submission to her husband.  She is sought after as a conference speaker, preacher, and teacher.

The City of Refuge is a prophetic church, attentive to what the Spirit is saying to the church in these last days. It is also a place of restoration where inner healing and deliverance are emphasized.
